UNKNOWN

.

What does the birdsong say? What does the birdsong
speak of? It speaks of known and unknown territory
that I have flown over. Strangely known, but can I
share this with anyone?

I want to speak only of birdsongs.

And the song travels with me, known and wild, known
and calm, known and tremendously creative.

My self takes wing on the birdsong, flies with it
thousands of feet above the ground. But more often
I see it soaring earthwards. Happier in landing
than in taking off.
Is it possible, I wonder. Can one learn to land
but never to take off. A clumsy take off, a
frightened fluttering and then a birdsong so
bright, so clear, so wondrously awakening, that
the flight doesn’t matter any more.
.

.

It is only the birdsong,
the gateway to an unknown world.

Is it possible, I ask myself, to discover one’s
self in a birdsong? To uncover, to peel off layers
of experience. To die continuous, unique deaths.

I have died. I have come alive.
I am a birdsong.
Laughter. Freeing laughter. Birdsong in laughter
and laughter in birdsong. Funny words, flying freely
out of me, landing perfectly.

You have smoothed out the contours in me. You have
created a landscape in me so bright, I think I’m
shining.
